Synopsis
On November 22, 2010 ten missiles strike Japan. However, this unprecedented terrorist act, later to be called as "Careless Monday," does not result in any apparent victims, and is soon forgotten by almost everyone. Then, 3 months later... Saki Morimi is a young woman currently in the United States of America on her graduation trip. But just when she is in front of the White House, Washington DC, she gets into trouble, and only the unexpected intervention of one of her fellow countrymen saves her. However, this man, who introduces himself as Akira Takizawa, is a complete mystery. He appears to have lost his memory. and he is stark naked, except for the gun he holds in one hand, and the mobile phone he's holding with the other hand. A phone that is charged with 8,200,000,000 yen in digital cash.
Eden of the East is a brilliant series followed up by 2 feature length films. The story is not like any other anime I have seen, from the first episode it grabs your attention and leaves you wanting to know more and more about the story, characters and this bizarre game! It's one of the most engrossing animes of all time in my opinion. The first episode is also one of the funniest, laugh out loud anime episodes I have witnessed.
The 2 main characters Akira and Saki are very likeable leads and very intriguing. Especially Akira with his "Bourne" style memory loss and the phone with an insane amount of money which gives him the power to do anything! This series has a lot of mystery to it which makes it thrilling start to finish.

I want this phone so bad!
The Animation looks brilliant in Eden of The East, realistic for the most part with some cute/funny Japanese animation thrown in every now and again. It is worth paying extra for the Blu-Ray to see the stunning animation and backdrops. The opening song is also very catchy and will be stuck in your head after the first hearing, Oasis - Falling Down.
Eden of the East is a very fun yet intelligent anime which I think has crossover appeal to non-anime fans because of the unique film like story which sets it apart from many animes of people fighting robots and girls with big boobs. This is a short series of 11 episodes which leaves you on a cliffhanger! So if you are like me and get obsessed with wanting to know what happens next and are planning on watching them back to back, then make sure you get the 2 feature length films as well as you will be very eager to see what follows.
Eden of the East is available on any DVD sites like Amazon and Play and is quite cheap now!
It is also on the US Netflix! So get it watched.
